Grandsons birthday.he loved it.These are the best puzzles for your little beginner. I can’t recommend enough getting your kids started on puzzles early. My son was 2.5 when we gave him his first puzzles. My daughter is now 2.5 & after seeing her want to help her big brother with his puzzles I knew it was time to get her started on her own. These puzzles are the best for little hands that are more likely to crumple cardboard puzzle pieces as they will apply more pressure trying to fit them together as they will really try to forces pieces to fit early on. The imagery of these puzzles is colorful. One of the most important pieces of advice I got when starting out puzzles was to pick puzzles that have imagery your children will enjoy, not you the parent. Even though we have basically all these puzzles my daughter wasn’t interested in doing the trucks or cars like my son was. She was already able to complete these on her own the first day we got them (with some guidance) & today she walked away from watching Daniel Tiger to do these puzzles completely on her own without guidance. That’s a win in my book. When they start to master these puzzles individually I recommend mixing all 4 puzzles together & letting them separate the pieces to make the individual puzzles on their own. It gives a longer life span to the puzzles. If you think 2.5 is too young to start your little one on puzzles I assure it’s not. Get them started, start with these & before you know out they’ll be 4 & completely 64 piece puzzles! And with that I think I’ve said the word puzzles enough for one day. ?Good quality. Easy to identify which piece goes to which puzzle. Perfect for young kids, my daughter must have done these puzzles a hundred times.I purchased this set for limited space and to beable to sit at the table and work on. THis little puzzle is great with high interest pictures.This as one reviewer pointed out is not a beginner puzzle, it is a great next step for 2 to 4 year olds learning to put multi-peice puzzles together. With a little practice they will be putting these together on their own. It is amazing how one child can see how to put a puzzle together very easily and another child struggles and struggles with connecting the peices. Putting puzzles together is a great skill for your preschoolers to learn, if they struggle on their own, help them out by laying out the peices face-up in the right direction and making suggestions on where to start or what might come next. Do you see another peice that would go with the head? and so forth. They are so proud when they get their puzzle together.My only complaint with this product is the box is not well finished off. Mine came fresh out of the package with a couple splinters on the edges. the box isn't very well varnished or sanded.Melissa and Doug has a Beginner Skills boxed set floor puzzle with 4 puzzles in the box(each 12 peices) that is very nice for beginners. The color puzzle is very easy to put together with each peice overlapping a color and allowing the child to know what comes next. The alphabet puzzles is a little harder. Very well made.Fantastic product! We have 3 sets of these and my son LOVES them all. I purchased the first set when was about two and a half. At this age he still enjoyed his peg puzzles, but I could tell he was ready for more of a challenge. These puzzles are perfect! Each puzzle contains twelve pieces. Assembled they are approximately 5" x 7". The wooden container is divided into four sections for storage; the container has a slide on lid. The back of each puzzle piece is stamped with a shape (different shape for each puzzle) for easy sorting. We have not had any problem with the wood splintering. The pieces are a little tight at first, but, after several assembles, they loosen and are easy for him to snap together independently. My son is three now; this is still not an independent activity for him. We have to do about 3 or 4 pieces together and after that he can do the rest himself. I see this as something that will definitely grow with him. Several reviewers commented on the small size. I guess since I had read these reviews I was expecting small. To be honest, I like the small box better than the large board puzzles that must be stored assembled...and you get four puzzles! Highly recommend this product; would make a great birthday gift for a 3 year old!My daughter has been doing these since she was 18 months old. She is now 3 and still loves them. She is incredibly analytical and loves puzzles of all kinds. They were a great way to build up to bigger puzzles. At first she would just do them separate, but now I pour the whole box out and she does them no problem. At 3 she now does 300 piece puzzles. Don't be afraid to introduce these sooner than the recommended age. Well made. My box lid did come warped and that is seriously my only complaint. These will last through all my kids.Update 12/5/14My second child, a boy, just turned 2 yrs old. I introduced these two months ago. He brings them in to my work area almost everyday and sits down and works on them with me. It is a ravorite toy for sure!!! Between both my kids they have been played with a couple hundred times and still look brand new. We now own almost the compete sets of all the 4puzzle box Melissa and Doug puzzles. They are the perfect sized pieces for a young child's hand.How can a manufacturer approve a product if there is a puzzle missing? In reality there was a duplicate of one princess, and I couldn't get Melissa & Doug to simple send me the missing 12-piece puzzle. I have to take time out of my work week to get this to a UPS store. Quality Control is not what it usd to be.When my now grown kids were young, my husband and I always purchased Fisher-Price toys and puzzles. These Melissa and Doug puzzles are really well made, sturdy and fun! My daughter's neighbor's little guy played with them many times and enjoyed the challenge while he learned letters and shapes. If I need to purchase puzzles again for a gift, these products would go to the top of the list!It is wooden box with lot of tiny wooden shavings coming off and ready to pierce a child's hand.Edges of the cover are very sharp for age group mentioned. The puzzles are good but I don't know why this gets such high ratings considering these two major problems.I don't know why my little daughter always cry when I look after her. She only wants her mum. The only thing I can do is to play these puzzles with her, and she finally calmed down and played all set of puzzles for half an hour. I released and had time to wash the dishes.On Several of the puzzle pieces the paper was not glued properly to the wood. We own 2 other boxed puzzles by Melissa and Doug and that has not been an issue. It’s a bit disappointing.Couleur très belle, en bois et solide, boîte de rangement parfaite.
