Description
Easy Inlay's crushed lab-grown opals contain the “fire” typically seen in rare opals and are optically, physically, and chemically identical to those found in nature. Also, unlike natural stones, the color, luminosity, and brightness of these opals will not fade over time. Our opals add a pop of color that catches the eye; professionals and crafters alike simply insert the grains into any void, small crack or knot; or blend with Easy Inlay’s mother of pearl to add visual depth and dimension. In the lab, opals can take about a year to grow. Made from approximately 80 percent silica, scientists arrange spheres in a lattice pattern to imitate the structure of a jewelry-quality opal. Then they stabilize the pores of the structure with silica gel; the result is an opal that exhibits the fire and iridescence of their natural, more expensive counterparts. On the Mohs Hardness Scale, lab-grown opals have a hardness of 4 and are easily sanded using silicon carbine (carborundum) or aluminum oxide (corundum) sand paper, which has a hardness of 9.0. They are durable and provide an excellent surface to polish and/or finish.

The color is beautiful and exactly what I needed. The colors are very good my only problems were that the grain size is large for inlay work so I had to crush it down further also there was a darker solid blue mixed in probably border pieces left over from the manufacturing process which I have to pick out when working with it & at $10 a gram I don’t like that.Good size easy to work withVery nice and colorful pieces!!!Great stuff. Makes for beautiful inlays.Nice even grind. Inlays easily. Great colors and iridescenceSmall amount, only a couple grams though I didn't measure exactly. I've done 4 small projects, all rings or charms using roughly the same amount and I am about 1/2 - 2/3 through the amount I received. As advertised, as I don't have any large projects to do at the moment it's the perfect way to get a couple different colors for about average price. Will be ordering more from this sellerDude!!! This is the most awesome material for inlay ever! I’ve used turquoise, silver, mother of pearl and crystal calcite among others. The opals just shine! Everyone immediately wants to touch my work! I think the fiery detail of this product has turned my work into spectacular. Yeah can’t wait to combine this with some of the other materials and see how awesome that will be. I hope you have plenty because I will be buying a ton!!
